Interesting Porn Blogs

Sir Rodney, who has been around the block on web, continues to ponder the “blog” explosion. Naturally, this little corner of Sir Rodney’s Guide to Online Erotica begs the question. First, it seems to us there is no real difference between a blog, a zine, and a good old fashioned home page (except the latter is soooo 90s – remember Geocities?) This led Sir Rodney to look at some leading examples of the online porn genre that wouldn’t normally be reviewed and posted on the website proper.

The first site, er… blog, GayPornBlog was sent over by the saavy young web savant supplied by Booble Bob to help Sir Rodney. This is an outstanding bit of ongoing porn journalism from two very erudite fellows, Mike Stabile, and Jack Shamama. I admire the way Mike drills down (rim shot, please) on the individual performers and tells readers where their most recent work can be found. It looks like they are really making the cash register ring while having the time of their lives. My cousin, who writes gay porn reviews under the original moniker Sir Randy, should take note.

There is one other site that presents itself as part of the new breed of web sites, er, blogs, and that is the popular Fleshbot, founded by New York new media entrepreneur Nick Denton, whose network includes Gawker, Wonkette, Gizmodo, Screenhead, all built on the same platform and edited with the same snarky urban edge. Editor John d’Addario edits both the straight and gay versions. We admire the site, although truth be told we found John arrogant and dismissive (remember, Sir Rodney is a New Yorker, so this is really saying something); we resent Fleshbot’s linking policy (they like Jane’s Guide better, it seems, betraying a lack of depth in the category); we found their ads a rip off (meaning they didn’t work for Sir Rodney); finally, we have only the most cynical suspicions why Gawker and Denton’s other sites are “blogs” and not an old fashioned web sites. With all that disclosed, you know we’re honest critics when we say Fleshbot is worth checking out.

Let us know what you think of Gaypornblog and Fleshbot, and other blogs you like. It will help to influence what Sir Rodney’s blog becomes.
