Sir Rodney is an avid reader of porn legend Al Goldstein’s blog. Recently Al reminded us of one of our favorite movies, “Behind The Green Door”, which should be at the top anyone’s list of classic porn movies. It is to porn what “Citizen Kane” is to mainstream motion pictures. A better one may never be made. It is pure cinema. And wall to wall porn. The experience of seeing it in a semi-respectable movie theater in the 70s - where you couldn’t really touch yourself - was sublime. I think I was hard for two weeks afterward. Now that was JOM. It was just seared ito my brain. Would gratification ever be delayed like that today?

The plot of “Behind the Green Door” is bizarre, to say the least. Gloria, Marilyn Chambers’ character, is kidnapped and ends up having sex in front of an audience at some sort of private club. (The movie tells this as a flashback from a man who was in the audience.) Despite being a kidnap victim, Gloria does not seem to be hurt or coerced after the very beginning of the film and it has no real violence. The audience is also shown engaging in sex acts after being aroused by what they’re viewing.

Marilyn Chambers is famous for having posed for an Ivory Snow Box. The packaging was apparently released the same year as the movie and is now a collectors’ item. Chambers went on to star in (mostly) adult films, and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame. As a publicity stunt, in 2004 she ran for Vice President of the United States.
A Google search brought up lots of returns, including this fan site, which has current pictures of Marilyn naked. She’s not bad for an old broad. We would not be surprised to see her turn up on our pick MILF Hunter.

The producers and directors of the movie, the famous Mitchell brothers, Artie and Jim, fared far less well then their star. Their tragic end is chronicled in the book and subsequent movie, Rated X, which is not nearly the equal of their XXX masterpiece.
