If you sat next to him on a plane, you would never know that Buck Angel was anything other than what he appears to be: a strapping forty-year-old man with a love of bodybuilding, tattoos (he is married to tattoo artist Elayne Angel), and cigars. Yet under those jeans, Buck still has his original equipment: a bona fide pussy, which has been the source of his sorrow, confusion, and ultimately, his redemption as the world’s first and only FTM transsexual.
Buck’s story is fascinating and well documented, and he tells it well in his own words on his free fan site:
“I was born female and lived many years as such. I would say I was not really “feminine” but more on the tomboy/butch side. I was always hanging out with guys doing guy things. I loved to drink beer and get into fights, work on cars, and stuff like that. I never felt like a girl and none of my friends ever treated me that way either. I was always perceived as a guy by everyone–even my family. But in those times sex change operations were not really talked about, so I just suffered “in the wrong body” which led to major drug and alcohol problems.
I ended up doing some professional modeling as a girl and traveled, but really fucking hated it. I was not loving life. Then I saw a movie with female to male transsexual and it changed my life. I realized that I no longer had to live that way. I started my transformation, first taking hormones for 2 years, then getting chest surgery. As you can see I have become the man I have always wanted to be…”
The pictures of Buck as a woman are fascinating. Beautiful, frail, haunted, quite different from the extroverted, confident, and happy man we met several years ago at the AVN show in the summer of 2004. Back then, Buck was just launching his web site and trying to figure out how to make a living from his passion for sex and pornography. He soon singed a 12 picture deal with Robert Hill Releasing to produce, direct and star in his own productions. Hill has afforded him complete artistic freedom. Buck’s first four movies, “Buck’s Beaver”, “Adventures of Buck Naked”, “Buck Fever” (nominated for an AVN award for “Best Transsexual Feature”), and “More Bang for Your Buck” (an all-gay feature) were released in 2005. Interestingly, Buck has found his biggest following among gay men, who see in him both the masculine ideal, and also an opportunity to experience vaginal sex. Buck is hosting his year’s “Black Party”, an annual event in the gay community in New York City.
We queried Buck extensively about his sexuality, and what it is like to look at life from both sides. “Testosterone treatments are really what changed me,” he confides. “I felt like a man before, but those treatments really changed the way I think.” Nonetheless, Buck says he loves his pussy and sex, and has no plans to swap his remaining female equipment. “It’s just not worth $70,000 to get a penis that might not work.” He’s dreading menopause, however, and contemplating a hysterectomy instead. The biggest beneficiary of Buck’s journey from girlhood to manhood is his wife, Elayne. “I really know first hand everything she’s feeling, everything she goes through. If every man had to live as a women for just one year, the world would be a very different place”.
